Ferry Meadows to Castor (via Milton Ferry Bridge)

General Information: This walk begins (and ends) at the 
Ferry Meadows Visitors Centre
and then joins the river at the beautiful Milton Ferry Bridge, goes up the hill to Castor  and then turns left towards Alwalton before heading back down to Ferry Meadows via Landy Walk.
Look out for the Red Information along the route for places of interest and stops for refreshments.

  • 1 Starting at the Ferry Meadows Visitor Centre (X) turn left.


  • 2 At this signpost, bear right.

  • 3 When you reach this bridge, go over it and turn right towards the Pontoon Bridge.

  • 4 Cross over the Pontoon Bridge, and then turn left.


  • 5 Bear right here and follow this path all the way to Milton Ferry Bridge.

  • 6 Cross over the bridge and turn left up Castor Hill.


  • 7 At the top of the hill turn left (the path will cross the busy road) 


  • 8 When you reach this junction, cross the busy road and turn left into Mill Lane. 


If you go straight ahead (X) the path takes you down the hill into Castor and Ailsworth
where you'll find places to stop and eat.

  •  9 When you reach this path, turn left...
...and continue on down the path until you reach the river, then turn right
The railway bridge will soon come into view. Go up and over the crossing, then turn left over the railway bridge and follow the path back into Ferry Meadows.

  • 10 When you reach this crossroads, turn right. 

  • 11 At the end of the path is this junction. From here you can either take the (red marked) path that leads back to the Visitors Centre and Car park, or the (green marked) path that takes you along the railway track and up to Overton Railway Station, where you turn left back into the Visitors centre.
