Swimming Rats At Ferry Meadows, Nene Park, Peterborough

Did you know rats can fish?  No, me neither!

There are currently three rats fishing at Swallow Bridge, taking advantage of the thousands of little fish that have swarmed there for the winter. At first they were hesitant to go in and spent ages on the river bank before plucking up courage. But now, they really seem to love it!

In previous years, regular otter activity in the area produced a mountain of scraps for the rats to feed on, but this winter the Otters are only visiting occasionally, so I'm guessing these rats have gotten used to fishy scraps and decided to help themselves instead!

I realize that rats aren't considered 'cool' wildlife to photograph, but they really are very entertaining to watch and I certainly view them in a different light now.
